Last week, we were given three concepts. We had to illustrate them or find some multimedia images to make the others guess which terms illustrated our multimedia selection. We had to guess the other groups’ drawings as well.
When we have to draw or find a picture, we did not have any problem. It is true that we took our time to find the one which could express the whole definition of the concept.
We found easier the selection of multimedia images due to our terms were “dismissively”, “success” and, “stagnant”. We had just twenty minutes to accomplished the task, which was not enough to draw clear illustrations.
We think that the pictures were clear enough and they needed no message to make the concept obvious. However, our terms were difficult ones, and we ourselves had to find out their translation in Spanish. The other groups would have had problems if the teacher had not written them on the blackboard.

We chose this pictures because we think they were more interesting and clairvoyants for the understanding of the idea.
The first one shows a man trapped in the grass. We can see the frustration of his face. We cannot see his arms because they are trapped as well. We think this image captures perfectly the idea of stagnation: “lack of movement, stillness; lack of activity or progress”.
The one with the fishes shows that not everyone is shaped like other people. In order to change, they must do something that anyone else can do to be successful in life.
Finally, there is the word “dismissively”. Dismissively means “showing that you don’t think something is worth considering”.
To show the meaning of such word in the most accurate way, we considered that the following video was the most appropriate multimedia.

The reason why we chose it was for the dismissive situations it shows at the office. They clearly represents the word that we had to illustrate.
However, we didn’t realize that (actually, we didn’t notice it), in the video, the word was included and it was forbidden.
So, we will take it into account as a learning point and we will try not to repeat it in the following activities.
This task has helped us to understand how important images are to understand terms and their definitions. As future teachers, we have to keep in mind that this is a powerful learning and teaching tool. Moreover, this will make our course funnier!
As Arthur Brisbane stated in 1911, “Use a picture. It's worth a thousand words.”
